Prescriptive and custom incentives for business gas-saving equipment, plus new-construction design support.

What support is available?

Prescriptive amounts depend on equipment and efficiency. Custom: up to 50% of incremental equipment cost, capped at $50,000/project, subject to the application’s two-year-payback calculation and cost-effectiveness review. New construction: $0.50–$1.40 per verified therm saved, up to $25,000/project; design-team incentives are separate.

2026 prescriptive projects must finish January 1–December 31, with applications received by January 15, 2027. Custom purchases, installations and completed-work paperwork are due by December 31 under the 2026 form. Its project-date fields include 2027, but do not establish next-year terms. New-construction timing requires separate project screening. All funding is limited.

Who may qualify?

Location: Eligible Black Hills Energy Colorado natural-gas accounts

Property uses: Commercial, Industrial / manufacturing, Multifamily, Nonprofit, Public / institutional, Agriculture

  • Use the Colorado commercial natural-gas application for the actual utility account.
  • Qualifying equipment includes efficient boilers, furnaces, controls, commercial cooking and insulation.
  • New-construction assistance has its own design and project requirements.
  • Custom gas-transport customers are excluded. Projects must pass the utility’s cost-effectiveness test and provide equipment/cost information and gas-usage consent for savings review.
  • Prescriptive equipment must be new; used/reconditioned equipment and self-installed labor costs are excluded. Provide itemized invoices and applicable efficiency/specification evidence. Prescriptive envelope rebates are retrofit-only, excluding new construction and additions.
  • New-construction support requires a retail Colorado gas account, at least 5,000 sq ft and modeled savings at least 5% above the application’s named baseline. Payment follows final verification; confirm applicable building codes independently of the incentive baseline.

Before you purchase or start work

Custom projects require approval before both purchase and installation. Prescriptive rebates above $10,000 require preapproval. New-construction applicants should obtain screening early in design before choosing measures.

Can this be combined with other funding?

Measures included in the new-construction program cannot also receive other Black Hills energy-efficiency incentives. Prescriptive rebates cannot exceed the customer’s paid cost; new-construction incentives cannot reduce payback below one year. Disclose outside funding and obtain confirmation; the forms do not establish blanket stacking permission.
