How to stack Colorado commercial energy incentives
Build the funding plan around eligible costs and confirmed program rules.

Confirm electric and gas service from a recent bill. A postal address cannot reliably identify both utilities. Get a quote using the equipment model, capacity, savings estimate and installation date.
Add local and regional support
Denver audit funding, Boulder County PACE, CORE and Power Ahead Colorado serve different projects and geographies. CORE paused commercial incentives in Garfield County for the remainder of 2026 after September 30. Power Ahead can combine with utility, municipal and state incentives, but restricts other federally funded programs.
Count the state customer discount correctly
For 2026 commercial air-source heat pumps, the Colorado credit is allocated per whole four-ton increment of installed heating capacity. The published minimum customer discount is $333 per increment; the contractor claims the tax credit. Counting the full contractor credit as the owner’s rebate overstates savings.
Separate tax benefits from rebates
Federal §48E can support eligible clean electricity and storage projects. The base credit is 6%; a 30% scenario requires the applicable wage/apprenticeship conditions or an exception. Timing, sourcing restrictions and adjusted tax basis matter. §179D is a deduction, not a cash rebate, and is unavailable for property whose construction begins after June 30, 2026.
Use an auditable calculation
List each measure and eligible cost. Obtain written confirmation of stacking and net-cost rules. Count each incentive once and cap cash support against the appropriate cost. Keep competitive grants, financing and unverified maximum awards outside the total.
