With the exciting prospects for a cleaner and more sustainable future, the renewable energy sector is leading innovation and advancement in the field. But in spite of its potential, the sector has a stark gender gap that prevents it from expanding. Women who were once seen as possessing limited skillsets and unable to make decisions regarding their education and careers are now essential players in the decision-making process in energy transition.

Global efforts to combat climate change and advance gender equality have made great progress with the creation of the Women in Renewable Energy Sector. In order to support students, researchers, and practitioners in the Energy sector, Women in Renewable Energy will bring together premier institutions that are committed to gender diversity and equality in the energy and other sectors. The following are some ways to empower women;

  • Developing knowledge and skills on renewable energy topics.
  • Empowering and motivating women to spearhead revolutionary change.
  • Establishing networks of mentorship and support for professionals and dealing with institutional barriers to gender equality.

Developing knowledge and skills on renewable energy topics.

Through education and training, women can expand their knowledge and skill sets, giving them the opportunity to grow their enterprises and participate in the expanding renewable energy industry. In addition, encouraging the use of renewable energy sources like solar energy can contribute to a more sustainable future by lessening the effects of climate change.

Empowering and motivating women to spearhead revolutionary change.

The combined power of young women globally has the ability to transform individual lives, local communities, and the global environment. Young women are always coming up with creative, practical ways to make their lives better, even while they deal with everyday challenges. Young women are driving change by merging their creativity and wisdom.

Establishing networks of mentorship and support for professionals.

In today’s society, networking and mentoring are essential for women to succeed in leadership positions. Work-life balance, bias elimination, and navigating gender issues are all areas that female mentors may assist with. Using planned and organized methods to find a mentor at work can help with networking, communication, and personal growth. Mentorship programs can help women feel more empowered, especially those who are engineers. They do this by lowering risks and offering advice on managing skills.
